Sparkling Glory (Nail Art)

Lately, I've been missing all of the holiday lights and decorations because I've been so dazed with the college application process. For those of you who haven't been through the process, I'll just tell you to be prepared. I started with my applications in the summer and I'm still doing them. Ughh. To those of you who have been through the process, please give me some advice to deal with this stress.

There's no way, I can let 2012 go away without enjoying this holiday season especially since it's my senior year. And I can't imagine my life after my regular school years are over. (Feels like my life is over. Like I seriously can't imagine college life. I'll be so old). So here's some sparkling glory nail art by Bristina of the the-tip-nerdss to bring some holiday pep and cheer.

I just thought. Hmm even if I'm still too busy to enjoy everything, just looking at my nails will fill me with the holiday spirit. To do this:

First, you want to paint your nails an opaque white. Every nail polish is different so just do as many colors as you need in order to achieve a perfect solid white.

Now take silver sparkly polish and swipe it on one half of each nail. Don't worry about being precise. When it dries swipe on gold sparkle polish on the other half of each nail. Finish it off with a top coat 

It seems incredibly simple but the end result is beautiful. You'll be mesmorized by the silver glints turning to gold glints and the other way around.

Design it yourself: Lace Shorts

Time for another DIY by the-tip-nerds! This is one of my favorites. Why you ask? If you're one of my dolls by now you should know about my obsession with lace. Pair lace with some old shorts and you have a fabulous summer look.

DIY: Lace Shorts by the-tip-nerds 

Here's how to make these cute shorts!!
So you'll need:
A pair of old shorts
Some lace
Scissors
Thread (preferablly white or the same colour as the shorts)
Needle.
Fabric chalk/ Pencil (nothing permanent)

O1. Mark out the shape you want to cut out on the shorts, then using the scissors cut the shape out of the shorts. 

O2. Cut the lace out it should be bigger than the cut out part but not to big, also cut it on the line of the shorts... do you get me? it needs to be as short as the shorts are!

O3. Thread the needle (pretty obvious) and sew around the edges with the lace under the short (pretty obvious too) Tada! You have some super cute shorts! You could jazz them up using other types of lace like pink, blue ect!

Your Prom Clutch

Prom season is here! Not for me though. Mine is next year and when the time comes I'll be sharing pictures my dress and the big day. Whether your prom is this year or not putting together a clutch is important and knowing what goes in it. This can be helpful for any occasion from weddings to just plain formal events. So here I'm collaborating with the-tip-nerds to bring to you: Your Prom Clutch.

Putting Together Your Prom Clutch by the-tip-nerds

ONE: Go to a department store and ask the sales person for a sample of your favorite perfume. Tuck that into the corner along with some bobby pins for any hair mishaps that may occur. You could even wrap them together with using a ponytail holder just in case you want to throw all your hair up later. Having them in the corner of your bag makes them a lot easier to find.

TWO: If you think you’ll need hairspray make sure you pick up a travel size bottle. Put it in the very bottom of your purse along with a comb. Those are the two things you’re going to touch less than the others, so putting them toward the bottom makes the most sense.

THREE: Your phone, blotting papers, and a flat leather card case will sit flat, side-by-side. Plus having your ID, debit card and/or cash in one place will keep you from having to dig around.

FOUR: Take a fancy lipstick + compact to keep it cute! You can check the back of your hair in the bathroom mirror using your compact.

FIVE: Trusty Tip- use a quick shot of spray paint to color match a safety pin (or two) to your dress for any emergencies. Tuck those into the other side along with some individual pieces of gum or couple of mints.

 I know, I know… “What about my keys!?” Think ahead. Leave a hide-a-key or put a single house key under the mat to avoid more clutter.

Design It Yourself: Leather Bow Cuff

Lately, I've so busy with school, so I haven't been able to write in my diary, but I told you guys I had a secret, right? We'll now it's time to tell you (and p.s. there are alot more to come). I've always wanted to share with you guys some fashion DIYs, I've done some on my own, but I thought it would be better if I collaborated with the-tip-nerds and added a Design It Yourself feature. Their projects are awesome so every now and then I'll share some with you in my diary. Hope you like it.

DIY Leather Bow Cuff by the-tip-nerds featuring a cuff bangle

• S U P P L I E S •
hammer
sharp scissors
hole punch 1/4 inch & 1/8 inch
clamp or bulldog clip
double-stick tape
button-stud
1-2 ounce leather 10×3 inches
leather needle (not pictured)
waxed linen thread or artificial sinew (not pictured)



1. Cut out your pattern pieces, affix double-stick tape to the back & place on your leather. Cut out leather.


2. Punch holes in designated spots on pattern. If using a button stud, punch one of the end holes larger than the other.


3. Sew through middle holes with needle & thread, starting from the front, weaving in & out.


4. Pull thread together to create pleats & cinch together with your clamp. Tie a square knot on the back side.


5. Wrap the smalls trap around the middle of the cuff, making the holes at the end match up. Insert needle from outside to inside.

7. Cut a 1/4 inch slit in the larger hole to allow for the button stud. Affix the button stud to the other end. Button & wear.
