What's Juicy? Muscial Muffs

Dear Diary

Yea, so I'm sick. First, I was so busy with school among other things so I neglected my diary and now...I'm sick. *sad face* But, don't worry about me I'll be fine. Maybe this has something to do with the fact that I never wore a hat. But, then again it could have been all those people coughing around me.

But, whatever it was, I've noticed that many people (well, us dolls) don't like to wear hats. But, I've discovered an alternative.

What's Juicy? Musical Muffs

My friend was wearing these ear muffs the other day. But, they weren't any regular ear muffs, they were musical muffs. She could use them to listen music by connecting it to her phone or iPod. I thought that was so cool. Okay, maybe I'm a little late, but better late then never, right? Yup.

You can get these musical muffs from Uggs. But, I would never do that because they costs around $80. I would rather get them from Target for $20. They come in many different colors and styles.

Would you wear these muffs as an alternative to hats? Let me know.

The Winter-Spring Dilemma

Dear Diary

Before you know it winter will be transitioning into spring. But, I've always had that dilemma where I didn't know how to dress for the weather. In the morning, it would be like 32 degrees and by the afternoon, it be around 60 degrees. I would feel like a fool in my jacket because by the time the afternoon came around it was seeping with hotness. But, if I decided to leave my jacket at home, I would freeze myself to death in the morning.

So I guess that's where layering comes in. Instead, wearing a big bulky coat, wearing layers would make it easier for me to adapt to the weather throughout the day.

Layers

I was never good at piling on clothes and making them look nice together. Looking at myself in the mirror, I felt like I looked like a homeless person trying to carry all the clothes I could. But, recently I've been getting the handle of this using leggings, scarves, blazers, sweaters and hats.

Willow Smith in layers

I am a huge fan of scarves. And I think Willow Smith feels the same way. It may seem like the purpose of a scarf is to only keep you warm outside, but they look great indoors and come in a stylish variety. And guess what, they're easy to pull off when you feel the Spring air coming on.

Zendaya Coleman in layers

I admire Zendaya's style. Both, on screen and off screen, she has a tendency to layer. Her signature style is to pile different colors and sizes of shirts that complement each other and adding designed tights to her outfit. Wearing a short sleeve shirt under a long sleeve open button down shirt is a style I use frequently. Blazers also work well in layering.

Rihanna in Layers

Light jackets, vests and hats make it easier to transition. I love the way Rihanna does this with her button up shirt, jean jacket and fur vest. She keeps herself warm in the early morning hours and peels it off as it starts to get warmer.

How will you be layering for this transition?

Boy Meets bloglovin' Girl

Dear Diary

Living in NYC has probably made me love fashion more than anything else.

Walking the streets of NYC, you will find every kind of style. This might shock some new comers from other states or even countries. While every other NYC native passes by because this is the norm. But, then again I have to admit there are things that even I see and I must pause before I continue on my way But, this is something I admire. Being free to express yourself while having others not judge you.

I've seen clothing from across the world which inspire me along with other people I see on the streets, other bloggers, musicians and people like Betsey Johnson, Selena Gomez and Cher Lloyd.

I love Betsey Johnson's quirky, fun and young style. Selena Gomez is a classic, but she doesn't mind trying new things and mixing it up. Cher Lloyd is exactly like me though. She's girly, but always has that added edge to her outfit. People consider me a tomboy at times because I'm not afraid to wear my sneakers, but if you think about it I'm not afraid to admit that I like to wear dresses, too. I love that edgy yet classical and girly style.

Fashion is also my escape, something that I control because every other part of my life is dictated by adults like my parents. They don't believe in my dream, but I do. And I express it through the creativity and edge I add to my daily wardrobe.

Having fun with life and not letting the status quo stop you from it is what I find in fashion and what probably draws me to it. Whether it's adding menswear to your wardrobe or being quirky and spontaneous or showing your parents that your dreams matter (Don't get too crazy on this on though. You want a roof over your head for a few years don't you lol).

Fashion makes me believe the impossible is truly possible: taking risks, having fun and trying new things.

In Full Bloom

Dear Diary

I just buy things from random stores. So sorry, I don't remember where I got these  pieces from.

Its funny how fast every year ends. I always wish I had more time in my day, more days in my week. And now days before we part ways with 2012, I wish there was another month in the year. One thing that I've learned over and over again was that life is too short so take it into your own hands and even though its way overplayed by now "yolo". I've really grown a lot this year and there's more space to grow. I have also learned that I get caught up in things to fast. I would make this my new years resolution of things to work on. But I know that every time I make a resolution I never complete it. So I'll just let life take its course and be spontaneous. After all isn't that what fashion is about. Years before did you ever imagine such a thing as asymmetrical skirts. I didn't. Everything for me is in full bloom. On that note, have a happy new year!

What's Juicy? Staying Warm and Connected

Dear Diary

Have you ever heard the saying be careful what you wish for?
Even if you haven't I'm sure you learned it on your own. In my last entry, I wished for a snow day. And yes, I got that and more. A few days ago, it rained ice. And it wasn't just that, it was also super windy and frigid. I even had another broken umbrella to add to my collection.

But, did it surprise you that I still attempted to use my phone in the crazy weather?
Yes, I did. It was cold, but my fingers were warm because of the gloves my friend bought me:
Touchscreen Gloves!
These gloves come in many different styles. They're so cute and you still get to stay warm. Everything these days are touchscreen. Regular gloves are really not compatible with all those Iphones, Andriods, Ipod Touches, e-readers and more.

These are the gloves that my friend bought from Target. And guess what they were only $3.
Bargain hunter, right?

All I Want.......

Dear Diary

All I want is a white winter.

Right now I'm doing my own version of the rain dance. I call it "white winter" dance. It has not snowed yet. And I wish it would soon.

Maybe some "White Winter" fashion inspiration will do us some good.

Even though it hasn't snowed yet, it doesn't mean I can't get a little glittery.

And to just make a snowball.....ah. Wouldn't that be great?

In some boots. I usually opt for these kind of boots rather than Uggs. These add a little edge to my wardrobe. I am in so love with them that I almost wear them everyday, while everyone else I know goes for Uggs.

It's not that I dislike them, but everyone has them and they are not that special. Or so I thought.
Recently, I saw an item from the Uggs' new holiday collection.

sev-uggs.jpg
And they're glittery! This season can't be complete without snow or a full dose of glam with shimmer and sequins. Thankfully, Ugg's new holiday collection took it into their own hands to do that for us.

The holiday collection includes not just shoes, but other accessories. You know it's not too late to do some more holiday shopping. I mean, you've worked so hard buying people gifts. Why not treat yourself too? Plus, these shoes look extra comfy for all that walking around in stores you've been doing.

Happy Holiday, dolls!

Sparkling Glory (Nail Art)

Dear Diary

Lately, I've been missing all of the holiday lights and decorations because I've been so dazed with the college application process. For those of you who haven't been through the process, I'll just tell you to be prepared. I started with my applications in the summer and I'm still doing them. Ughh. To those of you who have been through the process, please give me some advice to deal with this stress.

There's no way, I can let 2012 go away without enjoying this holiday season especially since it's my senior year. And I can't imagine my life after my regular school years are over. (Feels like my life is over. Like I seriously can't imagine college life. I'll be so old). So here's some sparkling glory nail art by Bristina of the the-tip-nerdss to bring some holiday pep and cheer.
Sparkling Glory Nails Art

Sparkling Glory Nails Art by the-tip-nerdss

I just thought. Hmm even if I'm still too busy to enjoy everything, just looking at my nails will fill me with the holiday spirit. To do this:

First, you want to paint your nails an opaque white. Every nail polish is different so just do as many colors as you need in order to achieve a perfect solid white.

Now take silver sparkly polish and swipe it on one half of each nail. Don't worry about being precise. When it dries swipe on gold sparkle polish on the other half of each nail. Finish it off with a top coat

It seems incredibly simple but the end result is beautiful. You'll be mesmorized by the silver glints turning to gold glints and the other way around.

Amira Says, "These are your Winter Essentials"

Dear Diary

Ever since the hurricane and the nor'easter, it has been getting chilly here in New York City. I miss the days that I could just slip on flats and walk outside. Now I have to actually bundle up. Ugh. It's so much work trying to find different things to put to together and layer up with. It's been making me late for school a lot now. But, you know what I decided I'd make it easier on myself
and my dolls who requested a Winter Essentials guide.

You ever had those days where it was very chilly outside, but you were not staying outside, but instead going indoors? Meaning that you were going somewhere with heat, but you had to bundle up to  trudge through the icy winds outside to get to your destination. And then when you got to your destination, you would feel stupid for dressing like a snowman and it was so hot indoors. Yes, that happens to me everyday. I bundle up and I feel so smart as I watch others freeze with summer clothes on outside and then I get to my steaming school and I feel stupid.

Winter Essentials

Well, feel stupid no more because the best advice any one could ever give you to solve this issue is to layer up. Put your clothes on and bundle up and easily peel them off later. And you can do this easily with everything listed in this guide:

Sweaters and vests- They're warm and cozy. You wear something under them to stay warm and when your start sweating you just unzip or unbutton and take it off.

Leggings/Tights- We all have those days when we're in the mood to wear dresses, but it's freezing out. Especially, if it's a party, we'll most likely freeze our butts off to look fancy. So just make it easier on yourself and wear nice tights under. They come in different patterns and colors to fit your mood and style.

Chapstick- I don't know how anyone can live without any type of moisture on their lips. I know I can't. I go crazy with having to lick my lips every second, so I always make sure to have either Chapstick, Blistex, or Vaseline with me.

Casual boots/Wedge boots- I have both of these: the casual boots with laces and wedge boots. When you buy boots make sure you have at least one pair that is made for the snow, so you don't slip and fall. The wedge boots, on the other hand are for the purpose of fancy events. You want to look cute, but it won't work if you're freezing. So wear warm furry boots.

Gloves/Scarves/Jackets- These you will definitely need outside, especially if it's snowing. But, you can also make these work indoors, especially scarves. Scarves are my favorite key pieces in my wardrobe. Gloves can also work depending on your style (ex. skater chick). If your jacket is big (ex. North Face), I would recommend that you do not wear it indoors unless it's absolutely necessary. But, fall jackets or biker jackets can always work.

If you have any request ask me on twitter: @vraifashionlove or click on the first link in the sidebar. And I hope you dolls enjoyed your Thanksgiving. What were you thankful for? I'm thankful for living another day, my family and fashion.

Dasher by Design

Dear Diary

Everytime a new show comes on that I might be interested in, I tell myself I'm gonna watch it. I said that with Vampire Diaries, but it seemed like every Thursday I had something to do and I eventually gave up. Like why would I wanna start watching a show in the middle of the season. I would be so confused.

When Jane by Design started, I said the same thing. But, again I was busy. And even though I hated watching shows in the middle of the season, I tried it with Jane by Design. It really wasn't that interesting. I thought it would be interesting because I was like I'm interested in fashion and this is about fashion, but it just didn't work out. And mind you, this was after watching for about 10 mins.

So I recently learned that the show was cancelled, I feel bad for the fans. But, now I know I wasn't the only one bored with it. The main character Jane, whose real name is Erica Dasher seems to have gotten over the ending of the show because she has big things planned. Film-making and fashion are on the list for the next stage of her life.

Erica is a huge thrift shopper. Don't you think it's crazy that she prefers Goodwill over H&M? Well, I don't. I mean it makes sense. At Goodwill, you find one of a kind. At H&M, they have millions of the same shirt across the country.

I would actually love to try thrift shopping one day. I'm definitely a bargain hunter and I support being original 100%.

Lace!!! And a Peter Pan collar. Ms. Dasher by Design style is defined by vintage clothing, whether it's vintage men's shoes or chunky rings. She doesn't mind mixing up her outfit with girly clothes and menswear to edgy.

I put together this collection of clothing that Erica would wear. She loves to look for multi-purpose pieces. Pieces that go with anything in her wardrobe.

Erica Dasher

Dr. Martens, sport men's loafers, heels, leopard, rings, blazers, baby doll dresses, skinny jeans and more can all be found in her closet. I can't wait to see where she takes her fashion style to next whether it be on screen or behind the scenes.

Make sure to follow me on twitter at @vraifashionlove for the latest updates. For example, my computer was messed up, so I couldn't write in my diary. How would you know that? If you follow me :)

Life Is . . .

Dear Diary

Remember me? I don't blame you if you don't. So let me reintroduce myself I'm Amira from...yea kind of awkward  Lately I've been trying to freestyle, which is funny  because I speak another language besides English and I try to rap in my home language. And I wish I could show you my dad's facial expression. Wait, maybe I can:

Y U NO Shut up?
Okay, maybe I'm over exaggerating. But, it's funny. Just don't let my dad know because then it won't be so funny.

But, anyway I guess this is just a way to ignore the stress that I've been feeling. Who knew being a senior was so stressful. I recently took my graduation pictures and I also took my creative shots by this bridge. Then, I had a deadline for many of my college apps in Nov. And I also have a job now. I'm happy with it but, everything has been all over the place.

Just like the hurricane that's coming to NYC. No, school tomorrow for me because that's how serious it is.

So as you can see too many things have been going on with my life to the point where I wanted to cry (and I'm not even the crying type). But, yesterday my sister bought a new iPod charger, so I was listening to her music and some hope came back to me when I was listening to Ke$ha's song Die Young. If you haven't heard it yet, you need to. You can't even find an excuse because it's right here>>>

The song is basically saying........
gobwomen: http://www.facebook.com/Dailyinspirationandmotivation
So don't fret ( I'm not even sure what this word means, but it fits), everything will work out because guess what, the colleges extended my deadline. Yay.

What's In My Bag?

Dear Diary

Hey, dolls! Lately, I've been so busy with homework and college stuff, that this stuff has been getting to me. I'm been so tired and even my school bag has been wearing me down. It's so heavy with school stuff, college stuff and personal items. So I decided to let you guys in on what's on my bag, well the most important things. To make sure your bag is not making your shoulders hurt, you just have to make sure you only bring along the important items. Yes, every situation has its own bag with specific items. But, these are items that you may need in any situation:

What's In My Bag
This may be surprising, but you should always carry some type of notebook or even a notepad. There are always situations where you may need to write something down. For example, what if you meet someone who could be your key for an opportunity of a lifetime and they want your number, but they don't have a phone on them. You'll need a book and a pen to give it to them or you'll just miss that opportunity. Maybe, that wasn't a great example, but leave home without a book one day and you'll see what I mean.

I always carry an umbrella and scarf with me especially when the seasons transition. New York's weather is always up and down and you never know what to expect. This morning it was very chilly and I had fall jacket on, after I left school, I had to take it off and wear my cardigan because it was hot. Carry an umbrella for an unexpected rainfall and chilly change in weather. A scarf can even be helpful for those days when you accidently spill ketchup on your shirt and you want to cover it up.

Lotion  and chap-stick is especially good for the winter when you skin gets dry. Get good smelling lotion for the days that you feel like you smell funky and you need to cover it up.

Your wallet is one of the most important things, you need in your bag. Keep extra money in there for emergencies, metro cards, IDs, and other small things that you don't want to lose. Don't forget your keys unless you enjoy being locked out of your house and wait for someone to open the door for you.

Lately, I've had an obsession with Doublemint gum for some reason. But, other than the reason to satisfy my obsession, gum is good for the days that you add garlic to your pizza and your breathe smells. Or you can buy the gum that cleans and protects your teeth.
